For over 34 years, Dr. Michael Quick has had a distinguished career as a software developer and database architect. He has served as project director and consultant for software systems used by Texas A&M University and other colleges in the Texas A&M family. Still an invited guest lecturer at Texas A&M, he spent several years as Senior Lecturer, teaching courses in .Net, C++, SQL and Relational Database Structure. In addition to these technical courses, Dr. Quick’s special ability to communicate with non-technical individuals made his introductory computer class a favorite of students.
Before retiring from Texas A&M University, Dr. Quick directed many large software development projects for Texas A&M’s Computer Information Services Department. These projects included:
- FAMIS: Financial Accounting and Management Information System Annual Budget: $650 million 2500 users
- SIMS: Student Information Management System for Tarleton State University- a regional university of the Texas A&M University System with a student enrollment of approximately 9,000.
- CIS Personnel Management System: Departmental Personnel system to manage 250 employees of the CIS department
- Texas State Chemist. Laboratory Management and Sample Testing System: Used to process 300,000 tests on 50,000 samples per year.
In addition to Dr. Quick’s numerous professional achievements, he is an avid cyclist, having completed RAGBRAI, the Des Moine Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa FOUR times. He has also biked across the continental divide from Leadville Colorado to Frisco Colorado on THREE separate occasions. He plays basketball three times a week in the NBA (Noontime Basketball Association) at Texas A&M University with several other university professors and employees. He a leader in his church, St. Thomas Aquinas in College Station, having served on the Parrish advisory council, and as past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
